Giving Zoo Day 2024

Nicki is our 5 yr old male caracal who came to us in September of 2022 from a facility in Florida.

Nicki came to us severely overweight. He lost 20 lbs in our care and we noticed some underlying health issues from obesity. This summer, we noticed he developed a limp. At his yearly check up he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and the vet also discovered a previous back injury that affects his movement. 

Nicki has a very sweet and laidback personality. He loves the smell of cinnamon, playing with peacock feathers, and napping! He is arguably one of the favorites among, park visitors, interns, volunteers, and staff. ​​​

Nicki now receives a daily pain medication to treat his new diagnoses. He has had two vet appointments this year to get radiographs and x-rays. His vet care this year cost $1,200 and is expected to cost a minimum of $500 a year for the rest of his life.

Nicki is the father of our 6 month old caracal kitten, Zuko! Zuko is also called Little Nicki by staff. He has his father's personality and has his distinctive gray ears.
